This boozy little pick-me-up was born on a winter night mid-pandemic when we were bored, nostalgic, and a few snaps deep into reminiscing about a 2017 trip to the States. One thing led to another, and soon we were behind the kitchen counter, chasing that café-bar magic.
If you don’t have an espresso machine, no dramas — a strong, good-quality instant will absolutely work. And while I rarely get bossy about serving sizes, be advised this makes enough for two. If you find yourself going back for seconds, well, I am not one to judge.
Stir the sugar, whisky, espresso, and hot water together until the sugar is fully dissolved and everyone’s getting along nicely.
Top it off gently with whipped cream. No need to be precious, just confident.
Sip while it’s still steaming, preferably some place cosy with cool tunes completing the picture.
